The pad was recent concrete and level. All hook-ups worked except the cable TV. The camp host said I was the first to report a problem with it. We stayed too busy too watch it anyway. The premium sites are terribly hot with little shade and a summer sun that tracks over in a way that your awning doesn’t do much good. The interior roads are very rough, even to walk on. The path and boardwalk to the beach is short and well maintained. The beach is the same beautiful white sand that is out on the Gulf Beach fronts.

It is a fact that the wind had brought dreadful havoc.
Heading south on Richards Street I spotted this mansard-roofed specimen at Pioneer. French Second Empire building styles, marked by slanted roofs like this, were popular in the s, so the building could be that old. Unusually, Red Hook Park comes in two chunks. The smaller one, since renamed Coffey Park, is between Dwight, Richards, Verona and Pioneer, while the southern one, much larger, is the home of the soccer fields that attract spectators from all over town, and the food carts that do likewise.
I found this s GE M at the Pioneer street park entrance. It has a plastic diffuser bowl; most are glass. It originally was the storehouse of the Joseph K. Brick Company, founded in to produce items used in gaslighting. Brick originated the fire clay retort, a device used to produce gas used for illumination; gaslighting began to be widely used in the USA around Clay retorts were instrumental in the production of gas from coal.
The heated retort freed the volatile or gaseous matter contained in the coal. These gases were then carried through a series of pipes and appliances which condensed, washed, and scrubbed the crude gas, and by mechanical and chemical means removed the impurities from the product and made it ready for commercial use. These works may be the very first in the USA to produce fire bricks and clay retorts. The storehouse was restored in and and was the first landmark building designated in Red Hook.

Also, the Brooklyn neighborhood already has so few restaurants , and they all do something different. But here are the most compelling of the bunch. Pizza Moto Hamilton Ave. Service might be slow, and during busier dinner services, the staff might not pick up the phone altogether. But against all odds, the faint rumble of traffic on the Gowanus Expressway above can be alluring, especially when combined with the back-lit, colorful guts of old pinball machines that adorn the walls. Fort Defiance Van Brunt St.
Specifically, this cavernous dining room is full of diners who politely nurse pints and eat pork ribs with plastic cutlery instead of their hands. Any jarring sensation of having landed on an alien planet or Manhattan , however, is tempered by the copious hardwood smoke wafting through the air, the crusty and behemoth beef ribs weighing down the paper-lined trays, and small tubs of briny whiskey sour pickles.

By Brother Nathanael Kapner Copyright There are so many unanswered questions regarding the Sandy Hook killings that it not only boggles the mind but inspires anger and legitimate outrage. Even Lieutenant Paul Vance, head of the Connecticut State Troopers, admits that much information surrounding the crime is being withheld. But there also some issues that we need to keep the cards close to the chest. And what about the first responders?
Why were they not allowed to enter the school until DAYS after the murders?
An original Key Wester.
Wednesday, August 22, A Key West Weekend Maybe it’s the three hour drive that sloughs away petty worries and aggravations, as south Miami suburbia gives way to Homestead farms and nurseries, which in turn give way to islands and open water. Maybe it’s the people, the motley historical confluence of traders, fishermen, treasure seekers, drug dealers, Cubans, Bahamians, gays, hippies, writers, musicians and miscreants of all sorts that make it feel so different.
Maybe it’s just that feeling of being completely enveloped by ocean, the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico only fifteen blocks away on the other. Even for a native Miamian like myself, Key West really feels like something of an escape. Key West is an easy trip from Miami; still, it’s also one I find strangely easy to overlook in favor of other more exotic, more distant destinations.
But with nearly 5, miles of air travel coming up we headed down there the weekend before taking off for Hawaii for two weeks and a couple days free, it was the perfect getaway for a couple days of rest and relaxation. Here are a few brief snapshots from our Key West weekend. You can see all the pictures in this Key West flickr set.

A Key West tradition. Russell a Key West icon in his own right. A bootlegger, fishing boat captain, speakeasy operator, etc. An original Key Wester. A speakeasy at first. When prohibition ended, as the Blind Pig.
It is a treasure well-loved by the community.

Key West, where it’s not only acceptable but encouraged to have fish tacos and bloody marys for breakfast. I may never leave. This food truck has absolutely perfected their limited menu making every item a home run. For such a tiny nook restaurant, these tacos are huge in flavor. Wash them down with some craft beer and a side of sweet plantains.
Not as raucous as places like Sloppy Joe’s , Hog’s Breath Saloon or the Green Parrot , the Rum Bar has a quiet charm, with less than a dozen barstools lined up around an L-shaped bar, and about five times as many rums lined up to choose from on the other side of the bar.
We love to immerse ourselves in the stories of star-crossed lovers. We get a kick out of the will-they-or-won’t-they teases of a good on-screen friendship tinged with sexual attraction. When it comes down to it, however, those tales aren’t exactly the way we’d like our own romantic lives to progress. What a relief, then, that there are also a handful of couples on our favorite TV shows that demonstrate what healthy, uncursed relationships look like.
Some of these pairs fell in love in high school — or even earlier Hi, Cory and Topanga! Others saw their longtime friendships blossom into something more and okay, maybe Lorelai and Luke took too long to realize as much. There are the coworkers who turned the spark of rivalry into mutual respect and folks from different walks of life who find they have a lifetime of lessons to learn from each other. Lately, we’ve also been drawn to watching the longtime marrieds Coach and Tami Taylor 4-ever!
It was queer state of sensations The effect of the monstrous sight was indescribable. It was, very clearly, the blasphemous city of the mirage. The toughness of the things was almost incredible. We ran like mad for the sane outer air.

So savage was the blast, even where we were, that we could not help wondering how much worse it was at Lake’s camp, directly under the vast unknown peaks that bred and delivered it.
